Though there are many prescription drugs like Chantix available to help a smoker quit smoking , the need to smoke is more a psychological need than a physical craving. So if a person is mentally determined to quit smoking , he can do it more effectively than take any other patch or drug.
Many people smoke when they are under stress or have a lot of worries, but if a person teaching himself other methods to quit smoking , then it will be easier to get rid of the habit. The smoker should be informed about the adverse effects of smoking both on his health and the health of his family and colleagues in office.
The immediate family can also play a significant role in helping a smoker quit smoking by providing the information about the dangers of smoking and the necessary support.

Many smokers have found that the prescription drug - Chantix helps them quit smoking. In the first week, they feel a little nauseous, but it makes them smoke less and eventually quit smoking.
Chantix is designed to be a nicotine receptor for the brain and makes the brain feel like it is getting nicotine, so reduces the cravings. However, it does not address the psychological aspects of smoking.
The drug is prescribed by doctors for smokers and the duration for which Chantix has to be taken varies from 2 months to 6 months. The duration is usually longer for chain smokers. In some countries like Australia, the government subsidises the sale of this prescription drug.
